Hyderabad: The New Training Destination For Open Source Enthusiasts
With more and more firms adopting Open Source technologies and solutions, there is a sudden demand for enterprise-ready open source professionals. Now, those aspiring to become experts in this domain and find a good career, can explore a new Red Hat Training facility to become industry-ready and upgrade their skillsets to match the desired profile!
Open source is the 'buzz' word in the IT fraternity these days. From bigwigs like Google or Yahoo! to SMEs, everyone is embracing open source with open arms. The main stumbling block is a severe talent crunch for most players. Shortage of enterprise-ready professionals who can be put on the job from day one and keeping the current resource pool up-to-date on the latest technologies are the twin issues faced by open source adopters. To tide over this problem, Taashee Linux Services, an open source software and training company, has opened a new Red Hat Training facility at Hyderabad, a city that is poised to become the next IT and electronics hub of India. Knowing what the industry is looking at But before anyone makes a choice and enrolls in a training programme, it is crucial to understand what skillsets and technologies are considered 'hot' by the industry, and after certification in these what kind of career options these trained engineers can look forward to. Abhi Datt, CTO, Taashee Linux Services, agrees and shares, "Virtualisation these days is being considered the newly found mantra for attaining IT nirvana. Not only does it save costs but also provides a new degree of management, high-availability of existing resources and helps reduce carbon footprints and power requirements for a firm."
He goes on to add, "Red Hat Virtualisation is a new age technology that is based on KVM (Kernel-based virtual machine) allowing one to virtualise in a Linux environment. RHEV is also cheaper than its equivalent commercial offering making it very popular among enterprises today. Seeing the growing demand for RHEV, we decided to start and keep this programme as one of the main courses at our facility."
The scope
But what is the scope for professionals going in for training programmes like the one Taashee Linux Services offers? The scope is immense, says Datt. "Our inquiries for providing open source experts have grown over 300 per cent in the last year as open source made major inroads into Indian mainstream companies. Earlier we used to have a tough time convincing companies about the benefits of open source and today we have a tough time meeting their demands for it. It is a paradigm shift.
"Recession shook the inertia out of the decision-makers who were very reluctant to change earlier. And this has resulted in a huge demand for open source trained professionals," adds Datt.
In the future Looking ahead, Taashee Linux Services hopes to expand across India. "We plan to start similar centres all over the country but will do so only if we are 100 per cent certain that we can keep up quality levels," says Datt. It is not numbers but quality that drives Taashee and they hope to spread this same zeal and attitude everywhere!
| Getting the Taashee advantage
While Tashee's Red Hat Certified Engineer programme
promises to churn out professionals ready to be 'on-the-go' from day
one, their Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation (RHEV) programme allows
current professionals to upgrade themselves on virtualisation, a hot
technology these days, in an open source environment.
However, courses like the RHEV need the right
infrastructure comparable to what is used in an enterprise environment.
Further, such courses also need trainers who are real implementers and
not mere theory masters. To address these requirements the institution
has roped in trainers, mostly from its implementation teams so the
students get to talk to people who have actually done it and can learn
from their experiences right away. "This saves time, energy and leads
to much better confidence levels of the learner," says Datt. Further,
the academy claims to offer the necessary servers and components to
manage Red Hat clustering suite and Red Hat enterprise virtualisation,
ensuring hands-on training in a real-life-scenario lab.
"The best professionals get offers from us every now and
then. We also promote them to our existing clients with their detailed
analysis of scores in a variety of areas," explains Datt.
