MobMe Develops Digital Signature Solution For India

Internet banking or mobile banking are still new to India and even after so many years of digitisation, people do not completely trust transacting through their handsets. Security has always been the main concern, but now a Kerala based company, MobMe has developed a solution for mobile signatures which ensures safe and fraud-proof transactions made through your mobile phones.

“MobME has developed the mobile signature solution in partnership with Netherlands based Gemalto and Finland's Valimo Wireless Oy. The deal was formally announced in Paris at the Cartes 2012 conference, the world's leading event in digital security and smart technologies,” reports the Mobile Indian.
Sanjay Kumar, CEO, MobMe, said that there are around 900 million subscribers and 15 million broadband users. And he sees cell phones as the most preferable platform for maximising the potential of digital signatures for a digital revolution in India.
The IT Act in India recommends digital signatures as it ensures high level security and is legally valid. In India, only a three million users have access to digital signatures and it is generally saved on a USB or a CD, which requires a PC to use. Kumar believes that mGovernance services will be highly affected by these digital signatures as all government services require signature by citizens. Also, it will help farmers to apply for agricultural schemes. Even the RBI prefers digital signatures for secure logins and transactions.
