Saturday, September 22, 2012:
Ultrabooks will become the flavour of the season soon, simply because they will be offered at a super-exciting price in the times to come. And, the icing on the cake is that you will find a range of convertible ultrabooks too... all this, courtesy Intel.
Intel revealed its plan related to ultrabook devices at Intel: Conversations. Speaking at the event, Sanjay Vora, general manager, PC client strategic planning, said, “Intel is planning to bring a range of convertible ultrabooks in collaboration with the OEM partners by next year. As the name suggests, these ultrabooks will have a detachable screen and keyboard. So they can be used as tablets as well. The idea behind brining these ultrabooks is to offer a rich experience of a tablet and a notebook. Each OEM has its own unique design of the convertible ultrabooks. Some of them like the slider approach, some of them prefer the flip approach and others opt for detachable approach. No matter what approach the OEMs like, we are trying to ensure that the designs are extremely high-quality and they meet the hybrid requirements we are looking for. We want to create the next-gen ultrabook experience.”

The company is banking big on Windows 8 platform. All these ultrabooks will come packed with Windows 8, but are compatible with Linux-based operating systems. Vora explains, “For this year our focus remains Windows 8. We have been working really closely with Microsoft and the platform will be launching soon. We would like to see Windows 8 platform on most of the devices because it offers some really exciting features.”
The prices on the devices will depend upon the OEMs but Intel is targeting to bring the prices of the ultrabooks in the range of Rs 35,000 for the Indian market, asserted Vora.
