Soon, Indian Engineers Will Find It Easier To Seek Jobs Globally

It could be possible if the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) becomes a permanent member of the elite Washington Accord.

Come 2013, engineers with undergraduate degrees from India will be brought on a par with those of the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and six other nations.
The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), under the aegis of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is expected to become a permanent member of the elite Washington Accord in June next year. Since 2007, India only has the status of a provisional member of the Washington Accord.

G Prabhakar, an NBA member and president, Andhra Pradesh chapter of Institution of Engineers (India), told TOI, "In 2013, NBA will be a full member of the Washington Accord. The accord recommends that the graduates of programmes accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognised by other members as having met academic requirements for entry to engineering."
In order to become a permanent member, it is mandatory that India invites the Washington Accord to audit its accreditation system.
If India gets the membership of the accord, approximately 20 per cent of the 4,000-odd Indian engineering institutes would be recognised globally.
