Saturday, February 25, 2012:
You may not have heard of Yves Behar, but you must have heard of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project or "the $100 laptop". One of the men behind this project, Yves Behar is known for his ventures into uncharted territory.
It all started six years ago when Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of MIT's Media Lab, met Behar with his idea of an inexpensive and impeccably designed laptop for children across the world. The vision turned into reality after years of hard labour and OLPC has now distributed more than 2.5 million laptops around the world.

Taking the venture ahead to the next level, the Swiss visionary is now nearing completion of the sequel: A $100 tablet. It's rugged, solar-powered, and designed for children in the world's poorest countries, reports CNN. The OLPC XO-3 tablet was earlier showcased at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. "The tablet is a refinement of the laptop," Behar told CNN's Sanjay Gupta in interviews for The Next List. "It's much smaller, it's much lighter, it uses less energy, less materials -- it can be even more cost effective."
The XO-3 model comes equipped with Marvell Armada PXA618, 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, standard USB, microUSB, audio in/out, sensor input and rubberized, waterproof back. The tablet's screen is both flexible and durable, Behar says. There's also a bright-green cover that integrates a solar panel for charging the laptop in sunlight.
The XO-3 solar tablet for kids is slated for launch later this year.
