Thursday, February 23, 2012:
Here is your chance to enroll for a free, undergraduate-level circuits and electronics course online offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As part of the university's online learning initiative called MITx, interested students can now sign up for the prototype course — 6.002x: Circuits and Electronics at mitx.mit.edu. Starting from 5 March, the first prototype of the online project will run through 8 June 2012.
The course is modelled after MIT's 6.002--an introductory course for undergraduate students in MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). These are the topics which will be covered by this prototype course: resistive elements and networks, amplifiers, digital abstraction, and analogue and digital circuits and applications.

It will be taught by Anant Agarwal, EECS professor and director of MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL); Chris Terman, co-director, CSAIL; Gerald Sussman, professor, EECS; and Piotr Mitros, research scientist, CSAIL.
“We invite you to join us for this pilot course of MITx,” Agarwal says. “The 6.002x team of professors and teaching assistants is excited to work with you on the discussion forum, and we look forward to your feedback to improve the learning experience.”
The US university wants MITx to "shatter barriers to education".
Designed to serve as a first course in an undergraduate electrical engineering or electrical engineering and computer science degree, the course will feature interactive lessons and online laboratories. It is designed to be fully automated, "with students who demonstrate their mastery receiving a certificate of completion for free".
