The taxi ride in New York is going to become more pleasant if this new proposal gets a nod. If you happened to ever visit New York City and had a taxi ride, you must have noticed a noisy TV in the back of the cab. But, soon Apple iPad may replace those old TV boxes. A private company has proposed removing the current screens and replacing them with Apple iPad or other tablets.
The proposal from Square, a mobile payment company based in San Francisco and started by Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey, is currently being weighed by New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, which if approved may replace TVs in 50 cabs with iPad or other tablet devices.

If the proposal gets the official nod, the pilot program would enable passengers to play computer games and swipe their credit cards at any point in their trip to pay for their rides. Additioanlly, Square is also shortlisting apps and games, which will be offered with tablet to the riders, reports Mail Online.
Back in 2007, the TV screens were installed in NYC cabs, which played local news and adverts. Square is expected to make a formal presentation to the taxi commission on 1 March to get those TV screens replaced with iPad or other tablets.
