Now, here comes a tablet for haxxors and programmers alike. Aura Design, a recently launched start-up, has launched its 17.8-cm (7-inch) and 25.4-cm (10-inch) Auraslate Android tablets that range in price from $139 to $270. These tablets feature an ARM Cortex A9 CPU, 4GB storage and a Gorilla Glass-coated capacitive touchscreen. The 25.4-cm top shelf Lifepad 1026 is said to run Android 4.0 OS.
Now, the best part about these tablets is that you can upload any version of Android OS you want on these devices (the most interesting part is yet to come) and the source code for Android and the hardware drivers are also available for these tablet devices.
"We encourage mischievous and curious individuals to see what comes naturally for them to dig in and see what possibilities this tablet may become," the company mentions on its site.

Aura Design is making available two configurations on their site: an Advance Development Kit which includes a source code disk and a cheaper Novice option.
According to a report by Android Community, Aura Design is already offering Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for cheaper tablets. So it is expected that both the new models will run Android 4.0 when they ship. Also, the company will be distributing source code for Android and the ARM-based hardware at the time of launch itself.
