Developed by Stephen Wolfram in 2009, a 52-year-old scientist, software designer and entrepreneur, Wolfram Alpha is a new kind of search engine, which unlike Google or Bing, does not dig the Web. It offers results for queries from its own painstakingly curated database.
When it was unveiled less than three years ago, critics were sceptic initially due to its limited approach, designed mainly for maths and science facts. However, the winner of MacArthur prize, Wolfram has now unveiled a new version of Wolfram Alpha, reports NYTimes.

Dubbed as Wolfram Alpha Pro, Dr Wolfram calls "Step 2, the next step of what can be done with this approach," which he describes as a "computational knowledge engine." The new version of the search engine is designed to offer charts, data and images, which could be downloaded in different document formats.
Also, the text understanding of the search engine has improved significantly. Just, type in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy showtimes," and Wolfram|Alpha delivers the schedule for local theaters. This week is a beginning, Dr Wolfram admitted. But, he added, "We're starting to have the ability to understand data and images in the way we understand text queries."
Already the technology has been deployed to deliver many scientific answers for Siri, the question-answering personal assistant in the Apple iPhone 4S. In that light, it may not come as a surprise that Siri accounts for about a quarter of the queries fielded by Wolfram Alpha.
