Friday, February 03, 2012:
Last time when the official numbers for the distribution of Android versions among the 250 million devices was checked, the Ice Cream Sandwich version just had its reach to 0.6 per cent devices. After a month, the number of smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 version has almost doubled. Android 4.0 has officially been released for just a handful of devices so far and even then one in every hundred Android devices is running the latest software version.
So far, there are only three devices available in the market that officially run the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system--the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Huawei Honor and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Other than the official release, tens of thousands of savvy users are running ICS built from Android’s source code or based on leaked software updates, states a report from Android Community.

On the other hand, the Gingerbread OS continues to lead with 58.6 per cent of devices. Froyo comes in the second position with 27.8 per cent and Honeycomb just holds a small 3.4 per cent share of total devices.
At the Consumer Electronics Exhibition 2012, a number of prototypes running the Ice Cream Sandwich were displayed and are expected to hit the market soon. If that happens, there will be a host of ICS devices in the market in the next three to six months.
Huawei displayed Ascend models running Ice Cream Sandwich OS, while Samsung and HTC both have leaked phones that run Ice Cream Sandwich and will debut at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2012. The number of devices running the Android 4.0 version is expected to increase even further with all major manufacturers committing to upgrade current phones to Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
