Thursday, February 02, 2012:
The tablet devices based on Microsoft's Windows 8 platform are expected to take the market by storm. The devices will not only bring better features, but will give tough competition to the existing leaders including Apple and Android. The platform will be bigger threat for Android as compared to iPad because Android is already facing a tough time against Apple's tablet. The sheer survival of any single Android tablet is difficult when it comes to facing iPad. Amazon's Kindle Fire has come for its rescue and has contributed majorly to the Android's market share but that's pretty less as compared to iPad's lion's share.
And now, Microsoft's Windows tablets will add to the mounting pressure on Android. Not only Android, iPad, which is slowly losing its share to Kindle Fire, should also fear Windows 8.

Now let's have a glance at what Microsoft will have to capitalise on when it comes to Windows 8 platform on tablets.
Applications
Microsoft has got a upper hand here. Microsoft Outlook Express rules the world of e-mails from corporate to home. Documents are always Word docs by default. However, it seems that Microsoft is not winning the race of applications but it's still running it. If Microsoft doesn't change the familiarity of the application, it might give a hard-time to other competitors.
No doubt that Windows 8 is technically a new operating system, but it has its roots spread to Windows 3.11. Windows can use and take advantage of the same familiarity to make its tablet conquer rather than introducing something new.
Fragmentation
Microsoft is not going to face the issue of fragmentation at all. Like other applications, you will not have to upgrade your Microsoft tablet to the latest version. Windows 8 will be on your Desktop, Laptop and on your tablet as well. Simply, fragmentation will not exist on your tablet. Price
On one side we have Apple and its lions share in the tablet market, and on the other we have Android tablets, which are overpriced. Consumers have to take contracts in order to make it affordable for them to keep up the pace.
Microsoft definitely has a higher chance of taking the advantage when the tablet manufacturers are not meeting the demands and have only one major competitor. Microsoft will have to keep the demand and price in mind when launching the product.
